About the artist

Painting as a constant source of joy.

Denise Sperry is a Western New York painter known for her vibrant use of color. She draws inspiration from the shapes, colors, and light found in nature, building each canvas around good design, a variety of shapes, and frequent color shifts.

She paints bold, large works from a close vantage point, creating an atmosphere that connects people intimately to the piece. Stand near one and the color does the rest.

"My goal is to create both a visual and visceral response in the viewer, a colorful and dynamic experience."

Painting gives her a steady source of joy and self-satisfaction, and that energy carries straight off the wall.

The approach

Three things that show up in every canvas.

01

Color first

Frequent shifts in hue and temperature keep each piece alive. Color isn't decoration here, it's the subject.

02

Close and bold

Large formats painted from a close vantage point pull the viewer in and wrap them in the work.

03

Rooted in nature

The shapes, light, and rhythm of the natural world are the starting point for every composition.
